News > Summer in the City, When Norway Attacks!The Voyageur restaurant is one of many places to dine along the St. Clair River. The entire east wall is 100 feet of glass, allowing its patrons to dine and watch the water go by. The restaurant opens at 11 AM for lunch on most days, and takes reservations all day, every day. Still, on August 3rd, the Voyageur had an arrival they were completely unprepared for.
 The Sidsel Knutsen, an oil tanker from Norway, experienced a power failure on its way south along the St. Clair River. With no way to steer or halt the ship, the captain threw anchors and laid on the horn. Patrons and Voyageur staff evacuated the building as the freighter swung around and came within 10 feet of crushing the seawall. The Sidsel Knutsen is still anchored at the mouth of the Pine River in St. Clair, and will remain until repairs can be made. “It’s not every day you leave for work expecting to be on the six o’clock news,” Michael LaPorte, owner of Voyageur, told reporters. The international disaster that might have been occurred just 2 miles from Hodges & Irvine, Inc. Just another day to mark in the books, I suppose. Also: Hodges & Irvine will be on television this fall. No, we won’t be featured on Entertainment Tonight, interviewed by Barbara Walters, or dance with any stars.
