News > Reduce, Reuse, RecycleFor a small company like Hodges and Irvine, reducing waste is an important concern. For a bookmaking company like Hodges and Irvine, reducing waste is essential. The production of our table and reservation books is a time consuming process that also consumes an enormous amount of paper.
The recycling of our paper waste is a chore we’ve done for over thirty years. In the early 80’s, Hodges and Irvine would participate in the biannual paper drives of a local church. Seeing the volume of paper that would be thrown away in the meantime, Hodges and Irvine decided to initiate a tradition of allowing its employees’ children to recycle it on a monthly basis. For years, the next generation would take a truckload of paper to the local dump for a small profit, and, of course, share 10% with the driver of the truck. Our most recent dropoff was done by the daughter of our production manager. She dropped off over half a ton of paper sheets and scraps for recycling. Not only are we helping to save the environment, we also like to think that we are passing on a strong work ethic to the next generation. Loading and unloading that amount of scrap paper is no small feat for a 10 year old. |
